There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.
I’m Only Sleeping – Suggs
Today we are heading back to the mid nineties to take a look at a single that was released by the Madness frontman as part of his solo career.
I’m Only Sleeping was released by Suggs on the 3rd July 1995. It is important to point out here that this was actually a cover of a Beatles song – which they released in 1966. However I want to focus on the Suggs version as a pop cover in the nineties as it was quite a popular thing to do – release a cover.
The Suggs version was produced by the prolific Jamaican rhythm duo Sly and Robbie and was released under the record label of WEA. It was the first single that Suggs released as a solo musician and was the first track off the album The Lone Ranger. The song was a double A side with the other song being Off On Holiday.
The single did well in the charts and went into the United Kingdom singles chart at number 7.
