Welcome to a feature where we sit down and talk to bands and artists about their latest albums to find out all about it. Today we speak to Tatu from the band Canvas of Silence about the brand new album As The World Tree Fell which is out on the 31st October.
Hello nice to meet you, tell us about yourself!
Hello! We are Canvas of Silence, a “Prog-Influenced Chorus Metal” band from Finland. We are going to release our debut album “As the World Tree Fell” on October 31st 2025 via Rockshots Records. We have released two singles from the album so far, you can find them on all the usual streaming platforms. If you like what you hear, you can pre-order the album here!
Tell us about the new album
The album is an emotional journey through vivid contrasts of heavy and melodic, complex and catchy, alluring female vocals and energetic riffs, all entwined with symphonic elements. Listeners can expect intense atmospheres, proggy twists and larger-than-life choruses. We are beyond excited to share the album with the world!
Favourite track in new album and why?
Every song is our favourite, that’s why they have been chosen to be on the album!
Tell us a bit about the recording process, was it fun to do?
I don’t know if “fun” is the right word to describe it. The songwriting and recording process for the album was very long and initially the material on the album was very different sounding compared to what it is now with these eight songs chosen for the record. But because of that, I had the opportunity to really contemplate what I want the sound of Canvas of Silence to be, and what kind of songs fit the concept of the album. And here you can hear it, with these eight songs.
What inspired the album name?
The title ”As the World Tree Fell” ties all the songs on the album together. “Falling” is the key word of the lyrics; the feeling of everything falling apart, be it in personal life or the world around you. And you are just someone who watches it from afar and cannot affect it, holding on to the edge for dear life.
Tell us the idea behind the album cover?
We got the “skeleton figure” from graphic designer Kim Kupiainen and then I just started trying different designs for the cover that would fit the music on the album. And this is the one we were satisfied with. I think the vibe of the cover matches with the music you can hear on the album.
What one of your songs on the new album do you think will the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?
Well, there is one song on the album that is eight and half minutes long and has all kinds of proggy twists and turns, so there are a lot of sections where things can go wrong… The song is called “Wayfarer”, let’s go with that one.
Why should people listen to the album?
The aim is that the album can convey the larger-than-life emotions and experiences poured into the songs. With every listening you are able to find something new, be it in the music, lyrics or yourself. We hope that the album hits hard, gets you hooked and makes you want to return to it again and again.
