Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Nights Edge

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

We just released our new album “The World That Never Was” on August 21st, and we put out the single “Shapes In Grey Space II: Soaring” the same day. We call it “Soaring” for short, and it’s the second to last song on the album and the second part of a three-piece suite that closes out the LP.  We picked “Soaring” as the day-of single because it’s short, direct, and powerful – a real kick in the teeth.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

“Now I’m soaring / high above it all / thought I’d reach the answers / but I know I’d just fall

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

My personal favorite is the eighth track, “Ataecina”.  It is about obsessive love or desire, and in the particular context of the track this obsession is taking place between a worshiper and the goddess that he worships.

Your favourite song to play live:

My favourite song to play right now is “Man of Many Faces”.  It starts out with a really heavy alternative metal riff and transitions into some stomping chords before switching to a super poppy chorus that is a ton of fun to sing.  By the time the third chorus rolls around, the crowd is hooked.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

The most difficult song to write was definitely “Shapes In Grey Space I: Reaching,” which, when you listen to it should come as no surprise.  It’s our longest song ever and it has multiple different movements, time signature changes, tempo changes, everything.  It’s rather progressive and pretty different for us, so it was a challenge.

Your most emotional track:

All of our tracks are pretty emotional, so it is hard to pick just one, but “Love Fiction” is a good example of that emotion.  The song describes the personification of a person’s depression and sadness as a caring lover, who is always waiting for the person when they choose to return to the safety of their depression.

Dream collaboration:

There are a million but Trent Reznor is at the top of my list.  Nine Inch Nails is one of my favourite bands, and Trent is one of the greatest songwriters and producers in rock.  Everything that he is involved in is better for having him.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Excitement and urgency. We get on stage and we go hard, and knowing that we are about to perform a 30, or 40, or 50 minute set that is emotionally and physically intense really locks us in during the moments right before.

The hardest track to play live:

“Shapes In Grey Space I: Soaring” is the hardest for me.  It’s pretty challenging to sing and play bass simultaneously on that song, and the choruses are very vocally demanding.  This is definitely one that leaves me breathing heavy by the time it’s done!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I don’t know if we have any essentials beyond the regular things that one needs (clothes, toothbrush, etc).  We don’t need much to survive!

Describe your fans in three words:

Intense, Silly, Passionate

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

“Love You To Death” by Type O Negative

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Well, we did just put out a new album! We also have a few shows on the horizon and are planning a tour for early 2026.  We also are planning on doing one last music video for the album, so keep your eyes out for that!
