The last time we spoke about the television show You on here it was about the negative way it promoted improv which sort of reflected the way that the American media was starting to see the comedy form. Today we are looking at it for a completely different reason. It is most apparent in the last season as it is really obvious throughout. It is not really about the plot so no spoilers here but is about something relevant so be warned.
The word You. Three little letters but the show proves that emotions can be connoted in so many ways just saying that tiny little word.
I don’t want to give anything away if you are planning to and haven’t got around to watching it yet but in the last season, especially the last few episodes the word ‘You’ is said in so many different ways to connote emotions of all varieties. This is a great thing for improv because it shows that the simplest thing can be used to create the strongest emotions.
Try it in rehearsals, each person in the scene can only say one word the whole scene and each time there has to be a different emotion attached to that particular word.
You will find out just how easy it is and also how fascinating it can be and it can bring so much to a scene!
