Shut Up And Drive – Rihanna

Today we are looking at a song by one of the world’s biggest music icons. It is always fun to look at songs that may have gone under the radar and you may of forgotten, so let’s take a look at one of those catchy songs.

On the 12th June 2007, Rihanna released the single Shut Up and Drive. It was written by Evan Rogers, Carl Sturken Stephen Morris, Peter Hook, Bernard Summer and Gillian Gilbert. The track was produced by Evan Rogers and Carl Strurken and released under the record label Def Jam and SRP. It was the second single to be released off of the album Good Girl Gone Bad released the same year.

The single may have some elements that sound familiar as it has elements of the New Order song Blue Monday – hence the reason why there are members credit for the writing.

The song relies on lyrics about cars that could be interpreted for sexual innuendos. The song has been used in many films and media including Wreck-It Ralph, College Road Trip, 21 and Wild Child.

The single did well in the charts worldwide and went into the top 10 in many countries including Australia (4), Belgium (9), Canada (6), Finland (3), Germany (6), Ireland (5), Netherlands (5), and the US Dance Club (1). In the United Kingdom the song went to number 5 and it went platinum selling over 600,000 units.
