Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life – The Light Switch Conundrum

Welcome back to Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life! Every other week we will discuss a different show and episode!

I have always been a huge fan of podcasts, I have listened to podcasts as far back at 2008 I think it was although I never really listened to them until a few years later. My first real introduction to the world of podcasts was when I was in my last year of university and had to spend hours in the classroom with two of my friends working on our coursework into the very early hours of the morning. It would just be the three of us, myself, Matt and Tom and whilst we were working, the podcasts of The Ricky Gervais show was blasting out into the room. It was in the moment I realised that podcasts can create so much comedy and can really sort of act like a ‘best friend.’ It also sort of created a special bonding moment between the three of us and I am still very much close friends with them today.Over the years, I have learnt that podcasts can really be so much more then the ‘laugh’ and whilst I do listen to a lot of podcasts to help get me through the tough days, the good days and the times I have to work through the night, I also have found that it can be so much more.

Over the years, the idea of what a podcast is has obviously developed, especially with the pandemic and so many more have arisen and so much more content is now available and in a saturated market it can be hard to find really good shows. I have learnt that sometimes episodes of certain podcasts can really have an effect and over time I have shown my appreciation for these episodes on my social media channels.

I have previously spoken about the podcast episode that inspired me to start writing this feature, and you can read more about it here. This week we are talking about a podcast that is jus purely joyous!

Episode: The Light Switch Conundrum
Podcast: Winning Isn’t Everything

I have been a fan of Chris and Dianne for many years for both completely different reasons. I have been a fan of Chris’ stand up for years and always found myself laughing out loud when he appeared on shows such as QI. Dianne is a fantastic dancer and is one of those people you just want to watch their social media videos as she is such a vibrant person. I was so glad when they were teamed up on Strictly and was amazed at their achievements and what they have done for so many people, inspiring so many people for so many different reasons.

“…One thing Chris and Dianne did when they were on Strictly: inspire people, show them that the sky is the limit and make people laugh along the way…

As soon as it was announced that they were releasing a podcast I knew I had to listen to it. There friendship and bond throughout the whole of Strictly was magic and it’s something I thoroughly loved as they are both hilarious in their own way. The podcast Winning Isn’t Everything is such a lovely show, it’s basically a conversation between two friends and that is why it feels like a hug in a mug.

A lot of the episodes are meant to be about discussing the dances and routines that they learnt for Strictly but a lot of the time it ends up being just a lot of fun stories from Chris’ life touring and Dianne’s mini adventures and activities of the week.

An episode that really stood out to me was the third episode in the series. There was the usual fun and conversations but they also discussed about issues Chris can have in hotel’s being blind and that was a fascinating listen as it was about things I have never thought of before. They have a discussion how it can be really difficult to to get around a hotel room and even to know if the lights are turned off.

“…Winning Isn’t Everything is such a lovely show, it’s basically a conversation between two friends and that is why it feels like a hug in a mug...”

It is a great episode and a real laugh and if you want to listen to something to make your day brighter then I recommend listening to this podcast episode as it is really fun and will make you day that little bit brighter.

I think Winning Isn’t Everything is a wonderful name for this podcast as one thing Chris and Dianne did when they were on Strictly: inspire people, show them that the sky is the limit and make people laugh along the way.
