Welcome BACK to the Magic of The Music Video feature! We have been having a break from this but now it is back and this time it is on the new day of Saturday afternoons! Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

To celebrate the return of Magic of the Music Video, we are going to start with a Duet Special Part 2. Back in MAY 2021 we had a look at music videos of duets and this month we are going to look at many more!

Today we are going to look at one of the many collaborations these two have done together!

I Like It – Enrique Iglesias feat Pitbull

Why did you choose this particular video?

I remember the first time I saw this video and was really enjoying the editing techniques that are used throughout. It Is a fun video and I really like the way the edits and camera trickery play with reality. It is a great video and still allows the personalities of Enrique and Pitbull shine through.

So, what is the narrative?

They are at a party and they are defining the rules of gravity!

Favourite parts of the video?

One of the things that I really like about this music video is the colour grade, if you look throughout there are sections where Enrique is sort of graded in milder colours and then the background are bold, golden styles. Throughout you start to notice that the shots of Enrique have been graded in a colder warmth to make the background sort of make him ‘pop’ so you really focus on him singing.

One thing that the music video really relies on and is also something that makes this a very fun video to watch, is the sections when Enrique starts defying gravity and walking on furniture in random ways. This obscures the video and creates this really fun element to the video and is something that I really like about it. It sort of makes him look like he is floating through the party which creates an element of the party flying by as he is having a good time.

When Pitbull enters the music video it is really obvious because the editing changes slightly, the shots become shorter and there are many different angles of the rapper. This gives pace to the song and also it is fun because it sort of gives Pitbull a grand entrance to the music video and really elevates him as a guest on the track. The editing here is a lot of fun and I urge you to watch it because of the use of shots.
