REVIEW – Comedy At The Fringe –Katie Pritchard: I Kiss The Music

I am going to start this review with something I don’t usually start my reviews with but I felt it needed to be said straight away – this is one of my favourite shows at this year’s Fringe. It is so unlike anything else you will see I urge you to see it.

If you are a fan of music, comedy and pop concerts then there is a lot that you will enjoy about this show. You are entering the world of a sold out pop concert with all the fun elements along the way. It has a lot of elements that everyone can enjoy and then there are elements that if you enjoy pop concerts that you can enjoy on a deeper level as it sort of mocks them such as the unique instrument the star only plays at a show, the crazy dance routines and the interactions in between. If you are a music nerd you will also recognise hints at certain musicians and iconic things that they are known for – there is definitely one song dedicated to Lady Gaga.

The introduction to the show is so fun – lots of different silly props are given to the audience so that they can participate in really enjoyable ways throughout. The audio description that leads you through the show is such a fun touch and makes an iconic and hilarious touch to the show.

One thing I adored about this show was right at the start, stickers were given out to the audience with the option of yes please and no thank you so that it was easy for Katie to see who wanted to be spoken to in the audience. It was something I have never seen before and it was a really special touch to the show that portrays that she respects the audience and their boundaries of wanting to be part of a Fringe show instead of being put on the spot.

Katie’s talents are exceptional – she is an incredibly talented singer, rapper and entertainer and it is such a fantastic one person show that is really hard to believe that is just her. It is so creative, unique and hilarious that it is such an enjoyable hour.

The songs are incredibly random, highly enjoyable, silly and most importantly the audience may of not heard the before but they get involved and sing along at any time they can. I guarantee you will walk away singing I am a sausage in a bun.

It is a show that defines what Edinburgh Fringe shows should be – energetic, really fun, makes the audience feel like they are part of the show and make you walk away with a huge smile on your face. A truly magic experience.
