Alex Kitson has a vibrant energy, that as a stand up comedian is unmatched, right from the start of the show there is a sense of enthusiasm on the stage that as an audience member it is really hard not to like. He has this way of reeling you into to his world whilst feeling highly relatable at the same time. It is really hard to believe this is only his second year of an hour show.
Kitson has a lot of jokes on relevant subjects such as the economy which unlike other shows it isn’t political it is relatable and really funny. There are some really fun moments that talk about important subjects such as the cost of living, the way pensioners are treated by the government – don’t let this put you off, the delivery of the jokes are more focussed on other things that they are very subtle nods that make points of fact but also create huge laughter points for the audience.
It is a laugh a minute and the audience respond which huge laughs throughout the whole show there is no gaps in the laughter, the yurt is alive. There are fun jokes about big themes such as James Bond and the ‘farming experience day’ which will make you look at things in a completely different perspective.
The Yurt location at the Fringe is a very hard venue to play, whilst it is small, it is in a location where noise can be picked up a lot and it can be very hard to focus on a show due to it’s location. This is where Alex deserves praise as his stand up is so engaging that you that you can actually ignore the noises outside. I have been to shows in this venue before and had an issue with concentrating with the show at hand but this one that was not a problem at all.
A fantastic second hour from the comic and it is a show that is absolutely hilarious and has been one of my highlights of this year. It is very special when you find a comic where there show is so good that the hour flies by so fast that you wish the the set was a lot longer. This is one of those shows – make sure you add it to your list for this year!
