REVIEW – Comedy At The Fringe – Stuart Laws Is Stuck

This is not your average Stuart Laws show, a puffin has gone missing…or worse was it murdered? It is down to Stuart Laws to find out what happened on Puffin Island and where is Titus?

Stuart is a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe and this year he has returned to the festival with a show that is completely different to those that have come before -this time he has returned with a show that is a mix of stand up and a play based around the sea bird, which sounds completely random but weirdly really works.

The show intertwines between Stuart telling a mixture or storytelling and jokes to scenes where he is interviewing various puffins played by Kate Hammer. The puffin is a gem in the show – Kate brings the story to life, there are some really fun moments where she ends up playing more then one at the same time and there are fights and and some fun quotes which makes the audience laugh a lot.

The show is scattered with sound effects, light changes to bring the narrative to light and to paint a picture to the audience. The storytelling is done really well that it grips the audience as well as creates a lot of laughter for the audience throughout. Also as you would expect, there are many bird and puffin puns along the way.

The one thing that is great about Stuart is that he pushes and pulls his shows in directions you do not always expect them to go – in particular it leads you to places you do not predict which lead to really fun outcomes.

It is a show that is incredibly unique, a fun filled hour and a show that is also educational. It is such a random topic for a show, that only someone like Stuart Laws could come up with an idea like this and make it work.

Puffin’ Awesome.

RATING: ****’ 4.5 Stars
