Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025

Travel Book – FRINGE TRAVEL EDITION – Edinburgh Zoo

When you are at the Fringe there may be a day or so when you want a break away from the main area of Edinburgh. So over July, we are going to look at areas you could potentially visit from the city for a mini day trip. Each can be either a full day or a half and I have been to all of them so thought it would be find to share this month.

EDINBURGH ZOO

Today’s mini trip is keeping you within the city. It is sometimes nice to visit a location that is nearby but also gives you the necessary break from the festival you may need. Also it is home to the baby pigmy hippo Haggis. So what better reason the to have a break?

Edinburgh Zoo is located on Corstorphine Road, which is about a 20 minute car ride from central Edinburgh. It is easily accessible through many bus routes from the city. It is open daily from 10am and I recommend you book online to save up to 10% on your ticket.

The zoo itself is massive and there are lots of animals you can see – everything from Capybaras, gentoo penguins and armadillos to giraffes, lemurs and tigers. One of the zoo’s mini celebrities at the moment is Haggis – the pygmy hippo was born in October last year and has become a social media icon.

There are many events and experiences throughout the year that you can get involved with as well just check the internet.

Sometimes walking around the zoo can be really relaxing and you can enjoy taking time out from the Fringe and it is a fun place.
