Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Fenia, I am the writer, director and lead actress of HER RAVING MIND. I’m originally from Greece, Athens, yes the Athens of the South! Love acting, passionate about theatre and a big believer of live shows and magical interactions with the audience! My theatrical work explores mental health and human resilience, through a fusion of real-life events and dark fictional stories challenging our sense of reality and life.
Tell us all about your show!
Oh it is a bit of a mad, dark comedy, psychological thriller… tears through genres… I mean radical, energetic with some dark twisty moments, in other words a classic comedy… haha… But most importantly it is a show about the journey of a female abuse survivor to mental and emotional liberation, to finding herself and as you will see -yes I am careful, no spoilers! – to find ‘her enemies’ and reclaim her life in an unorthodox, even rebellious way. A huge part of the show is the immersive musical experience – beat-heavy rave, club music, lights, dance—all blending to explore the main character’s emotions in a visceral, clubbing-style universe. … if that makes sense. Let’s discover more together when you come to the play!
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
When I was writing the show, I was literally ‘in the eye of the storm’ facing some intense personal issues that I am exploring in the play – yes the play has some dark autobiographical content as well as content from interviews I conducted in female abuse survivors. Music was vital to get me through it. Club music, rave, dancing in the shower – singing in the shower some times too, oh yes!- trying to calm my mind down and escape in a way from that difficult reality. So I think I was ‘raving’, yes, if that makes sense… Hence, RAVING MIND!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Hmmm…. so much to see, so little time! I absolutely LOVE the Fringe and always hunt for those hidden gems and surprise shows—so I plan to jump right into action: interact with fellow actors, meet new faces, and before you know it, I’ll be binge-watching their new, fabulous shows firsthand. I want to also catch some new comedy shows (including the dark kind)!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This is my first Edinburgh Fringe, and I’m practically fizzing with energy! The main advice I was given -and I’m sticking to it 100%- is: go all out, dive headfirst into the audience (which I LIVE for!), and most importantly, be your absolutely mad, joyful self—no holding back!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Although it’s my first Fringe, I’ve already got my routine down—sort of. Wake up early (sometimes), down one, two, or even three tiny espressos in the old town (because zzz, I need to wake up!), then go full-on flyering—sticking posters everywhere like a poster-obsessed artist on a mission. After my madness of a show, I head back out flyering again, then wind down with wine and meeting other artists and friends. If I manage to squeeze in a meal in there, it’s nothing short of a miracle! Haha
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Come and see my show and then stick around for a walk in town and swapping ideas on future projects! In between, let’s squeeze in as many shows as we can and hey don’t forget – can we please get a juicy burger at the Pleasance Courtyard? I heard they’re the best…. Yum!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Not entirely sure (except for the burgers! ), since I haven’t eaten there in a while… but definitely up for sampling the street food and letting other artists take me to their secret spots. It’s all about the adventure!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Well, not to state the obvious, but it is the world’s biggest arts festival, and I feel so fortunate and proud to be part of it and sharing it with my co-actors—throwing ourselves into the madness and swapping crazy energy with the audience! I can’t wait to meet all these amazing artists and simply lose myself in this exciting, vibrant world of theatre and performance arts. Honestly, it’s a dream come true!
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Focus, move fast, and study the Fringe programme well in advance! Activate your internal SAT-NAV at full blast for newcomers and radical shows, grab your co-actors, and dash like there’s no tomorrow—because every second counts!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
A fun, dark show , endless coffee—because survival—and soft, comfy shoes to walk everywhere… definitely no high heels for now…
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Bring your best, fun energy, smile and interact with people – get to know them, have some fun with them, maybe dress up a bit like a wild animal? Not sure that fits my show style… hmmm let me think – I’m pondering as we speak-
