How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Camden fringe?

Our show is heavily themed to the post-apocalyptic genre and the word Wasteland is used a lot in this genre – especially in my favourite game, Fallout. The premise of the show is an old storyteller telling ‘tales from the wasteland’ to entertain the audience and distract them from their impending doom.

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

Our show is wild and fun with an emotional heart at its core. Each show explores an entirely new wasteland made up on the spot through group worldbuilding in scenes so it can be a wacky and interesting place depending on our mood! However we always strive to create an engaging and relatable narrative at the core of the show with a protagonist.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Anything improv! I can’t get enough. Our friends from Bristol ‘Beansville’ are also performing at the Courtyard Theatre the day after us. They do a show based around watching an improvised VHS movie – highly recommend you catch them if you can!

How are rehearsals going?

Great! Many people ask me how we even rehearse an entirely improvised show but the key is to just run many practice shows and have fun with each other. The group bonding and comfort with each other is crucial.

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

The new variety of audience we get. In Bristol the scene is big but it’s nothing compared to the number of audience members and shows in the big city.

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

Reduce, reuse & recycle. If the wasteland can teach you anything, it’s that there’s limited resources in our world and you must think of creative ways to reuse the objects at your disposal. Need a new tupperware container? Use a Gu pot and a pringles lid!

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

There’s a lot of improvised genre shows that have influenced me heavily like Austentatious, Spontaneous Potter or Any Suggestions, Doctor?. Any of their cast would be great!

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Monsieur Pidge. This year has a real noir, arty, french vibe about it.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

The best place is instagram at wasteland_improv. We post pictures and clips from our shows, upcoming show dates and other fun tidbits

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Wild wasteland fun
