Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! I’m Sophie, I’m a NY-based comedian who writes for The Daily Show. I have two siblings and two parents. My hobby used to be comedy and now that it’s my job, I have barely any others.

Tell us all about your show!

This is a show that asks (and hopes to answer) the question: Why do all women with savings accounts have their confidence ruined by men with no bed frames?  It’s also about why I dated so many guys who do not respect the fact THAT I respect Taylor Swift.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I love everything Catherine Cohen does. Also looking forward to seeing the other Georgia House Productions shows, Will Rowland and Kate Owen. Also my friends Simple Town and Lily Blumpkin!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing the fringe.

I’ve done the Fringe twice before, once with my solo show Sophie Sucks Face in 2023 and once with my improv group Ladies Who Ranch in 2024. I had super different (both great) experiences, but I guess the overlapping piece of advice would be don’t come to the Fringe alone! Bully someone into joining you! It’s a huge undertaking and having a support system in place – your friends, your director, your sister, your friend who just lost her job and has August suddenly free, your special blanket – is important.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I wake up extremely late, like 3 or 4pm. It might seem like I’m lazy, which I am, but I also never have to adjust to the time difference, which makes me very smart.

Then I take too long of a time getting ready, eat a weird breakfast, stand with a towel over my head over some boiling water for 10 minutes to steam my voice, and leave. I either try to catch a show if I have time or head straight to my theater, where I get in costume, do a vocal warm-up, make sure all my tech is working and ask my producer to tell me we’ve sold out! She lies to me even if we haven’t, because that’s what a good producer does.

Then I do my favorite thing (perform my show) and usually grab one (to eight) drinks at one of the performer bars. Then I go home and pass out. Sometimes I’ll defrost frozen chicken tikka masala and THEN pass out.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Last year, at the recommendation of my friend Caroline Yost, I had the lunch special at Chez Jules which is like a 30 minute walk from most venues. I ate a whole fish. It rocked.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

For me, the best thing about performing at the Fringe IS performing at the Fringe! At this moment in my career, I don’t know where else I would get to do my show 25 nights in a row. It’s exhilarating and rewarding. The show gets so much better, I get better as a performer, and I have so many endorphins I consider quitting my anti-depressants.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

The hardest part about performing at the Fringe is losing your voice. You will lose your voice, which is hard because unless you’re doing a mime show, it’s probably an essential part of your act. I have a disgusting tea that can help you.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

I do actually bring one of my childhood stuffed animals. Not my favorite one – she’s too precious and I’m afraid of losing her – but, you know, a beta one. I’m not embarrassed about this, I guess.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Cook most of your food and have one of your friends do your tech (still pay them! But less)

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Shoes you won’t break your ankle in walking through Edinburgh, Arm&Hammer Saline Nasal Spray, and Xanax.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Same secret as being successful in life. Get someone attractive to do it for you.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

I’m most active on Instagram – @stringcheesezucker

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It’s pretty good.
