Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hiya – I am an artist and writer. I taught sculpture and performance at Central Saint Martins and Royal College of Art for15 years. I am the lead singer in the post-punk band Viralux. BUZZ is my first show at the Fringe.
Tell us all about your show!
BUZZ is a one-woman show based on a true story drawing on personal tragedy told through the lens of art history, surrealism, post-modernism and the contemporary. Sly dark storytelling. BUZZ is a haircut. BUZZ is a swarm. BUZZ is a guitar amp. BUZZ is the sound in my head. BUZZ is a stand-up tragedy
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Contemporary clowning. Seeing Julia Masli in HaHaHa at the Fringe a couple of years ago really blew my mind – it opened up a new level of performance for me. Last year Natalie Palamiedes in Weer was hilarious, fascinating, repulsive all in one. Brilliant. So, I always look out for the clowns.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Check out the Fringe a year before you bring a show. It helps give a sense of space and scale.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Waking feeling luxurious and eating a deliciously good breakfast.
Doing some stretches (in my mind, if need be)
Follow-up on emails and show business. LOLS! It’s the life!
Out for tea. Hobnobbing and chance encounters
Time to get ready for the show.
Showtime!
Post show eating and hobnobbing.
Seeing a show – a must – there is so much to see!
More hobnobbing and chin wagging.
To bed by 10pm. Trust me, I need my beauty sleep.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
KauKau Poke
37 South Bridge Road
Superb poke bowls – Delicious, healthy, power food.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The audiences, hands down. And Edinburgh, a brilliant fusion of history and culture, a place where the art of conversation is alive and well.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
Performing everyday – it is intense.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
My husband bought me a heated vest which is perfect for those chilly Edinburgh evenings. The vest has a little glowing label that signals it’s on. I feel like a wee robot with my vest plugged in and a-glow – ready for a show.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Try not drinking alcohol? Good luck with that!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
– all things and lotions that promote calm
a pocket full of tricks
some Xanax
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Have a good pithy summary of the piece. Talk to people about what excites you about the piece.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
IG : trish.-.lyons
And finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Smart dark comedy
