Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Charlie Mulliner. I’m a comedian/actor/writer. I was working on the West End when I decided to go and do a bit of training with clown guru Philippe Gaulier. It totally changed my life and I ended up staying for 2 years before training at the physical theatre school Jacques Lecoq. I’m now back and so excited to bring my first comedy hour to the fringe.

Tell us all about your show!

Love Hunt is a bonkers mash-up of character comedy and a romantic breakdown. The show follows Amber as she attempts to figure out what she wants post-breakup. She meets a host of bizarre and brilliant characters along the way, taking the audience to some surprising places.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Lorna Rose Treen, Stamptown, Lachlan Werner, Brillig, Coral Bevan (aka Fisherman Jon), Ivo Graham, Levi Meltzer and many others

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe:

I’ve been up to the fringe as an actor before  and my main advice would be: eat, sleep and climb Arthur’s seat to gain some perspective. It’s a 350 million year old dormant volcano. No one will remember your bad show.

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

This is my first time bringing my own show. I’m really looking forward to being part of the community of performers who are taking the risk to put their work and themselves out there.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe –

Wake up (crucial) at 8.30am (wishful). A healthy breakfast with at least one non-beige food. Do some stretching/yoga (aspirational),  go flyering for an hour, do my show, have some lunch, run around all over the place handing out more flyers, see more shows, check my bank balance, look at people at the tattoo and wonder what it would be like to be a soldier instead, google soldier salaries, go see a clown show and remember why I’m not a soldier, down a pint , wash my face, go to sleep.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

The salad bar at tesco.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The audiences! Meeting people from all over the world who are all there because they love live performance. And getting to be as weird as you want in public. And running into pals all over the place.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

I think it’ll be the marathon nature of it – every day bringing the same level of energy to the performance no matter how hungover you are, how many people are in the audience, or how much the man hates it in the front row.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

I have a note and a lucky penny in my wallet that I always carry with me. I’m not particularly superstitious – but it gives me a sense of continuity. Also my partner.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Tupperware! Develop a very low tolerance for alcohol so you can only have 2 drinks. Do night shifts on a trawler and commute from the North Sea.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Dry shampoo, self-esteem, , and lots of socks.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Eye contact, smiling, and always say thank you. And try not to interrupt conversations where someone is crying or about to go down on one knee.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

They can follow me on instagram @cmulliner or visit my website at http://www.charliemulliner.com

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Silliness with heart.
