Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hello Pheonix Remix! Gosh where do I start. I am a stage fool, otherwise known as a Stand up comedienne. A clown. A drag performance artist and a musician. A lot of fingers in many pies!
Tell us all about your show!
THISMOTHERPHUCKER is an immersive experience working to unlock key memories, resurrect every nostalgic moment left forgotten and heal the inner child. My goal is to push every boundary for myself and each individual that enters the room. Its going to be a very very very weird and exciting piece, with every content warning imaginable. I’ve always been captivated by the wonderfully weird and absurd since I was a little babba, so this an exploration of my own absurd mind.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Oh there are a plethora of acts, with comedians who I’ve started my comedy journey with such Shalaka Kurup , Rohan Sharma, Hasan Al habib , Cabbage the clown , Trash Salad, Alice india, Will BF, Sharon Wanjohi, Soft play and so many more, so very excited to see their shows! Also want to see Grace Helbig and Cat Cohen as I adore them both!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I’ve done bits and bobs, along side a run at the Blunda bus and a split bill here and there! I’ve been a goer of the fringe for about 9 years and its one of the most magical places for me. I would personally never condone anyone taking advice from me, however I would solidly say that no matter what happens in your shows and how they might make you feel, you absolutely have to have fun with it. Every moment is a moment of growth! Also don’t go all out everyday (trust me), preserve those loins! Keep your mental noggin and physical health at its peak because its all about survival baby!
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I’ts my first time debuting, so i’m excited to see what performing everyday is like and how my show will natural transform and grow.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Pry my eyelids open slowing. Possibly shower if i’m feeling fruity. Make myself a nice earned breaky B. Also check on my physical and menty B. Start preparing and practicing the core elements. Remind myself to have fun and play. Do the show and have a ball. Go straight home , make a cheeky brewski and good old shut eye for myself. This is the plan in theory. Lets see if it works out.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Red box is a NECESSITY. Any time of day. It is an elixir for a hangover and in general a cultural staple at the fringe. There have been several days I’ve had it 4-5 times in the week, without fail. Heck, I’m Asian so i know good Chinese food and woah nelly, this is the best pan asian noodles (with endless combos) I’ve ever had! It’s like a crack (it’s not crack, it’s just food.)
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The sheer adrenaline of every show, is just nothing compares. Comedy can evoke such a visceral, otherworldy emotion and it mind boggles me how it can simultaneously make everyone connect together all at once. I love immersive experiences. I think mostly because I enjoy watching people squeel / low-key enjoy themselves when having to deal with stranger interactions. Also exciting for me to see where I can take it if anywhere!
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
Doing it every bloody day. The fatigue and burn out. Lordy lord. It can be such a slog. There will definitely be some dramatic highs and lousy lows. But I shall preserve! For Art!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I always without fail bring a game of Dobble with me. Perfect for the train and every drunken occasion. Its a hoot and a half. Very competitive and there is always a very clear, definitive loser. Never me.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Sleep on floors. Tesco meal deals. Do a flyer swap. Cook at home. Dont. Spend. Money. You gotta do what you gotta do.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
A good pair of kicks for those cobbly lanes and 100,000 steps for no reason kinda days. A bum bag to keep all your knick knacks because heading home whilst your in the meadows is a no go. Also Dobble.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
I use to work at the fringe several years ago, sometimes from 10am in the morning till 2am at night (obviously with breaks). The secret to flyering is when you do it, you make it ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with flyering. Come up to them with a limerick or even a riddle. Sing a Backstreet boy classic to them. Tell them you love them and that you want to marry them, but for crying out loud NEVER just flyer them. I use to flyer passerbys with lobster claws on , or dress up as a corn on the cob. Get creative people. The world is your oyster.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@sumicomedy on all socials
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
