Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hello beautiful, my name is Shivone and I am one of the co-founders of Maria Who? and one of the cast members of Miss Brexit.
I am a half Cuban half Slovak multidisciplinary migrant artist who came to London to study Musical Theatre. I am an actress, singer-songwriter, facilitator and model involved in both community and performance settings. I believe that art is a transformative tool to create community in this individualistic society.
Tell us all about your show!
Wow… so much to say! MISS BREXIT is a satirical musical parody of a Miss Universe pageant,
showcasing the migrant experience in the UK. Four contestants from different European places will go through several challenges to prove they can fully assimilate, hosted by a flamboyant and unforgiving MC. It was co-devised using the real stories of all the cast members, combined with satire, multilingual songs and extravagant costumes.
The meaning behind the show is the universal theme of identity, which is the key element that bridges both realities an inch closer. MISS BREXIT is also the debut production of our company Maria Who?, and in a wider perspective we aim to create theatre that is written through the lens of migrants, rather than being portrayed as stereotypes. Creating a platform for new theatre, representing multiculturality, celebrating diversity and new collaborations.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I am looking forward to watching Copla: a Spanish Cabaret at Assembly Underground, ELEMENTS at theSpace@Surgeons Hall, JEEZUS! at Underbelly and all the shows our time will allow us to see – it’s the best place to get inspiration and see the work of great artists!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
It will be our first fringe! Our advice would be for companies coming for the first time.
Our journey is already being one hell of a ride for us and we haven’t even started, so I’d say take care of your team. Communicate and make sure you are kind to each other. The Fringe is a lot of hard and intense work, but it should be fun and exciting. Talk to other artists who went, get a good PR, and make sure you come to have a great time! Artists will help each other out (at least the right ones will) so don’t be afraid to ask!
In that spirit, we launched our Crowdfunding campaign to help cover important costs. Wanna have a look?

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?Yes it is! I am looking forward to meeting
like minded artists, getting inspired by the atmosphere and the historical city it is… Personally, the witchcraft.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up, do meditation, coffee with a bit of gentle yoga, eat and head to the theatre. Put on makeup, warm up, get flyering, come back, set up the space and do the show. Afterwards mingle and go to eat… Watch a couple of shows/tourism and decompress/tea and, of course, beauty sleep.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
That OUR company Maria Who? is bringing it, producing it, fundraising, liaising and debuting through our vision and showing what we have to offer as actors-devisers!
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
I think it will be performing every day with only one day off… Keeping the stamina and not getting lost into the whirlwind that the festival is!
Finding space within the cast to recharge, and manage the other social engagements we have like watching other shows, attend to network events, flyering, etc.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I will bring my white candle and palo santo (sacred wood), and my teddy bunny.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Look in advance for accommodations and do not go with the first option you find. Crowdfund, follow people/pages/groups of the Edfringe, and apply for grants as much as possible.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Tooth brush, massage gun, yoga matt, deodorant, sunscreen and raincoat.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
To show who you are through your talents like singing, dancing… Wearing part of your costumes and have a good quality speaker. Really engage with your audience, create a relationship with the people you speak with. They can become your best publicist.
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
Please follow us on Instagram @missbrexitshow – to find out more and also connect with us
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Unique – Heartfelt – Over the top
