Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! I’m Josh Elton. I will be winning both best Best Newcomer awards this year and I’ll be the first white person to win a MOBO.

Tell us all about your show!

This is my debut show, it’s the big one for a new comic. Luckily for me when I compiled the funniest punchiest stories I’ve got they actually tell the story of how I got here, and how one short period nearly ruined my life. I have the most embarrassing car crash of all time, I end up in the news, my girlfriend convinces me I’m cursed by fairies and I nearly let a man die. It’s all going on!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Both myself and Steffan Alun are being produced by Ignacio Lopez this year. I’m looking forward to seeing his show as well as Ignacio’s work in progress. My friend Jessie Nixon is debuting as well. I will try to see Rhys Darby and I always try to Jason Byrne when I can.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I would advise new acts to pursue more financially viable pursuits like crypto or throwing money into the road.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I am VERY excited that this year my show is at 8pm. My last two shows have been at 1pm. And I tell you there is not a single thing worse on Gods green earth, that flyering while hungover. If you want to destroy your sanity, drink as few as 4 pints, get to bed, wake up and have scottish people look at a picture of you and say “no, I’d rather stay out in the rain”. I’ll have all day to get my head in the game, I even have a street team so some days I WON’T FLYER!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I am not a trust fund baby, my favourite place to eat in Edinburgh is Sainsbury’s. The only way I’m experiencing Scottish culture is if they put haggis in a meal deal.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Sincere answer: Peer Support. I used to hate “networking” until I realised it’s just peer support. Stop lying about how your run is going and be real and you have a bunch of people around you to support you. It’s lush.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

I bring my teddy bear that I had when I was 5 and a big massive rucksack of narcotics.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

The best way to come out of Edinburgh with money in your back pocket is to have rich parents, and or a famous dad.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Good walking shoes.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Be funny. It’s pretty obvious init? The flyer is an excuse to make someone talk to you. They’re stopping for 20 seconds, make them laugh and they’ll come. And they might even attend the show.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

The main thing I use is instagram @thejoshelton

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Because I’m a Maverick
