Hello! Tell us about yourself?

My name is Aaron Wood. I’m a working class comic from Greater Manchester. I’ve been doing stand up for 5 years and doing my debut hour at this years fringe. I have a girlfriend who’s dead fit and really bad posture. I’m working on it though, promise! Come see my show.

Tell us all about your show!

It’s a show about what it’s like to grow up in a rough, working class town and the everyday drama that comes with it. I talk about my feelings (ew) and rimming (woo!). It’s a dead fun & relatable show about finding the positives in the negatives, the good in the bad, the shine in the rain etc etc you get the picture.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Every year I always overwork myself and don’t get to see as many shows as I’d like. This year I’m debuting so only focusing on that which will free up loads of time to see shows. In particular i’m keen to see Liam Withnail, Connor Burns, Alex Kitson, Daniel Sloss. I’m sure there will be loads more as I’m desperate to see as much as I can this year.

Have you done the fringe before?

What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe. – Avoid the chip shop on the Grassmarket. It lead to 2 cancelled shows and me doing something I really didn’t want to do in the Co-Op the following morning.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up, check ticket sales. Some self loathing dependent on sales. Promise myself I’m gonna eat healthy today. Have a Berroca. Flyer my show. Do the show. Give in to peer pressure.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Anywhere but the chip shop on the Grassmarket. Seriously avoid it. I needed new pants.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

It’s the closest comics ever get to a routine. It’s really cool to be in a place that also has nearly all your mates. There’s always someone you can relate to. If you’re having a great day then there’s acts that can match it and vice versa. Surround yourself with good people and you have a great little community to keep you level headed.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

My own pillow. First year I went up I stayed with a woman who gave me a stained pillow without a case on a bare mattress.  For the first two nights I slept on a folded-up hoodie. Oddly enough it still felt like a great deal for the money.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

I honestly don’t have any. Every year I say I’m going to save as much as I can and then I finish my show, go drinking until 4am and get an expensive taxi home. Sometimes I even make the mistake of going in a certain nameless chippy and ruining the next 48 hours of my life. Just look at what I do and do the exact opposite.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Vitamins. Card Reader. Spare underwear.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Don’t be annoying. Actually talk and engage with people. In the event someone takes your flyer, rips it up in front of you and drops it on the floor then you may need to hold back a furious Scottish man who is angry on your behalf and threatening to kill him. What a great day that was.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@aaronwoodcomedy on everything.

And Finally in three words

Why should people come and see the show? IT’S. DEAD. GOOD.
