Hello! Tell us about yourself?
My name is David Gibb and I’m the Creative Director of Little Seeds Music. We create high quality musical experiences for families to enjoy together as a shared experience. Our work spans theatre shows, albums, concerts, video games and participation projects – if it’s offering young people the chance to enjoy brilliant music made just for them then it’s very much our bag. Our digital production ‘Rolling Down The Road’ was named by the Guardian as one of the best pieces of theatre to stream in 2023 and our work has been recognised and supported by Arts Council England, Heritage Fund, The Space, Help Musicians and more.
Tell us all about your show!
Cinderella Ice Cream Seller is a brand new musical for families which we describe as an ‘ice cold twist’ on the fairytale classic. It tells the story of how Cinderella went from a humble ice cream maker to a multimillionaire business woman with an ice cream parlour on every corner. The action takes place in an ice cream parlour with two of Cinders’ loyal employees sharing her rags to riches tale. It’s very funny and sweet, slightly farcical in places and involves lots of multi rolling, instrument swapping (all the music is live) and is very much designed to be enjoyed by the whole family together.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
We’re excited to check out some of the other family shows at Edinburgh – there’s a comedy/clowing show called Monsterrrr! By a German company that looks really exciting.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
We’ve done a lot of national touring as a company, but this our first time at the Fringe. The thing we’ve been told by a lot of people is to rehearse your get ins and get outs and time it so we know for certain that we can do it in the time allocated.
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
We’re really looking forward to soaking up the festival atmosphere and also getting to see some really exciting and different shows. Often when you’re making work, especially work for families, it can feel like you’re in a bit of a bubble, so it’s going to be great to be surrounded by so many other artists.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
As we’re a family show we have a fairly early slot at 11:40 so our day starts off with our get in and show. Then we’ll be heading out for some flyering and in the evenings and afternoons we’ll be doing our best to try and see as many other shows as possible!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Well seeing as our show is all about ice cream we’re definitely going to be visiting some of Edinburgh’s ice cream shops whilst we’re there.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The chance to platform your work on an international level.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
The financial stress and trying to balance the budget.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I’ll be taking a drawing my son has done for me – it’s tough being away from my family for such a long time, especially when the life we’ll be living at the fringe is so all encompassing.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
We’re bringing an air fryer as cooking facilities are limited. Hopefully that will open up a lot more options and save on food costs!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Vitamins, your own pillow, comfy shoes that you don’t mind standing up in for hours.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Be keen and seen, but not too keen and not too seen!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Brilliant family musical.
