Hello! Tell us about yourself?

My real name is Lil Wenker, and I am a 25-year-old clown from Minnesota. I’ve been living in London since September 2023. I moved to London to try solo comedy, and I’ve absolutely found my place.

I play my alter-ego AKA The Baddest Man in Texas AKA Bangtail. Bangtail is untamable like a wild stallion, beautiful like a Texas rose, and smooth like a whiskey on the rocks.

This is NOT his first rodeo, Edinburgh. In fact, BANGTAIL played a sold-out run at fringe last year and is coming back for one last ride.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Ada and Bron — The Origin of Love

Chloe Petts — Big Naturals

Amy Annette — Busy Body

Sharon Wanjohi — In the House

Andrew Doherty — Sad Gay AIDS Play

Jessica Barton — Dirty Work

Madeleine Rowe — Knight, Knight

Mark Silcox — The Gold Trader

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

  1. Wear good shoes. Good advice for fringe artists and for cowboys.
  2. You can never eat too many Tesco spicy three bean wraps. Also good advice for fringe artists and for cowboys.
  3. Never forget where you parked your horse. This one is just for cowboys.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up to the rooster’s crow and greet the day with a fresh cup of coffee. The rooster? Actually the sound of children screaming as the Bubble Man does his morning show.

Sausage roll in the meadows and by “sausage,” I mean mushroom. You’re an evolved cowboy.

Hunt around for a show or two before the best part of your day: the Tesco spicy bean wrap.

Tell a few people how much you love the Tesco spicy bean wrap.

Mustache-up and dress yourself in leather from head to toe. Once you step into full cowboy for the day, there’s no going back.

Get ready to root and toot! It’s showtime.

Power nap as the sun goes down!

Look for someone to duel. Realize no one does that anymore. Buy a beer and gab far past your bedtime.

On the road again, homeward bound.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Bobby’s! If I’m not eating the Tesco spicy bean wrap, I’m eating a mug of lentil soup and talking tunes with the glorious servers.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

It’s an exact tie between the following two: meeting artists from all around the world and having the chance to do the show so many times in a row! There is no other place or time in a year in which you can do both things to such a great extent.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

Lara Ricote and I were just speaking about the lovely and confusing concept that two completely opposing things can be true at once: it’s incredible to get to play 25 shows in a row, and it is absolutely exhausting. This cowboy loves his sleep, and there is never enough of it at Fringe.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

My horse, a small cactus, and a tiny The World tarot card given to me by Cerys Bradley.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Gosh, it’s hard but a few things: self-producing the show, making coffee at the flat, and eating meal deals on repeat.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Layers. Why is Edinburgh so hot and cold and hot and cold and rainy in one day?

A bag because God knows you’ll need a charger, notebook, snack, handful of flyers, water bottle, sunscreen, and 78 million other items in one day.

A sense of gratitude to be able to participate in this incredible festival.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Something eye-catching. Last year, we walked around with a WANTED poster that people could take their picture with. That and the spoons on my boots sold the show every single night.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@not.little.wenker on Instagram. Every year I say I should be better at X, and I still call it Twitter and have yet to make my first post.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

One. Last. Ride.
