Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m a second generation Irish, vegan, Tottenham supporting stand-up comedian.
Tell us all about your show!
I had a rubbish year last year which normally makes for a good show. I’ve taken the stories of hospitals, colonoscopies and worse and turned it into what I think is a very funny hour of stand up.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
My family is coming up with me for the whole month so my show list will be mostly kids shows this year.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I have performed at the Fringe 17 times (writing that caused some deep existential trauma)! My main advice to any performers is so simple it’s almost embarrassing to say. Enjoy it. It’s a biggest and best arts festival on the planet and everywhere you look is something fun and exciting to watch. Don’t get too caught up in your own head and your own show to forget to actually enjoy being there.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
My days now are very different to my early fringes when I sampled every experience it had to offer. Now I’ll be awoken by my daughter by 7am. I’ll then entertain her for 12 hours before heading out to entertain a paying audience for 1 hour. I might treat myself to a show or a couple of drinks post show before heading home to bed.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
The dumpling stand in the Assembly Gardens is probably my most visited location during the month.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Everywhere you turn there is something fun happening so it’s impossible to be bored while there.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
The third week energy slump. There are a few days in week three where your body goes into shutdown!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
My family.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Don’t do drugs.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
A good show. Passable mental health and manageable expectations.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Don’t ask me to do it. I lack the social confidence so would just stand there hiding them so that no one asks me for one.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
I’m @carldonnelly on Instagram and X
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
It is funny
