Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Jon Chesbro

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

The last single I released was “See You Again.” I recorded that single in multiple places, – Arizona, Boston, and then finally finished in Maine. The video was shot in my hometown of Salem, Massachusetts. It’s a really fun song and I loved doing the video! And it’s a good lead in to the next single, this spring’s “Choices.”

Your favourite lyric in this song

“Time heals but it takes too long” the opening lyrics to the song just hits so good and means so much. Basically saying It’s hard to be patient with yourself while your pain heals but time does really heal all wounds. It’s cliché but so accurate. I like how I was able to articulate it.

Your favourite song that you have created is an album track:

Hmm, good question. I recorded about 10 songs for a project but that won’t see the light for a little while. The forthcoming “Choices” is a top tier song on this new record BUT i have a few more up my sleeve. “One Last Dance” is another one you’ll see this year.

Your favourite song to play live:

A track off my most recent EP Outta State Outta Mind – it’s called “Missouri.” It just rocks and jams. I mean, that whole EP does!

The song that was the longest to write and why?

I wrote this song “Growing Pains” a while back and I’m still working on it. Like should I sing it? Or how should I play it? It’s an emotional one, so I want it to have that emotionality when I record it.

Your most emotional track:

We’ll go with “Growing Pains” again. I wrote this a while ago and I’m still getting it together. It’s a very heart on my sleeve kind of record. It’ll see the light soon.

Dream collaboration:

Working with Jim James of My Morning Jacket or the late Peter Steele from Type O Negative.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Butterflies in my stomach. But once I get comfortable, I’m like a different person on stage.

The hardest track to play live:

That’s a good question. Most songs we do are well practiced so I can’t say one is harder than the other.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Toiletries… Yes you read that right. It gets dirty out there

Describe your fans in three words:

Sexy. Loyal. Accepting. I always do new shit, nothing is the same as before, and the fans never know what to expect but they love it and I love them.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Oh yeah, “It’s Golden” by My Morning Jacket. Love that song.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

More music! I’ll be releasing often this year so keep your ears open!
