It is our birthday month so to celebrate I thought it would be fun to write a couple of articles to take you behind the scenes of the The Phoenix Remix. In this article I am going to tell you a few things that you may not even know about the website that may be interesting to discover.
90% of the website is handwritten
Yes, that is correct, a lot of the website is handwritten first before I even go to a computer to type it up. I have a lot of notebooks that I have gone through since I started this website. I love writing and I only feel more connected to it when I write the words by pen and I feel that it is more personal then writing on a screen which means that I can express more into the writing. It also means I can write on the go and always have a pen and a notebook on me where ever I go. I have written on many trains, up and down the country, even abroad! It means whenever I am inspired I can write.
The name of the site came from a song
Naming a website is the hardest part and I initially wrote down a lot of different names that I could use. I took two words from the Fall Out Boy song The Phoenix because I really liked the connotations of the last words of two lines of the chorus. I liked the fact that the word Phoenix connotes being risen up and Remix I liked because I felt it brought the idea that the website will remix your ideas of comedians and topics you may not know a lot about and make you discover something new or bring something new of enjoyment into your life. It is silly but I really like those words and what I felt they mean. Will the website change names in the future – maybe – but I love the name of it.
My first published piece of writing was at age 16
Growing up I always wanted to be a journalist as I have always loved writing. I worked for a local newspaper for a week to gain work experience and instead of just giving me silly admin stuff to do they actually published a lot of my writing which was such a rush. To think that people could be reading my words was really exhilarating and kept me want to keep writing.
I always have loved music and travel
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a music or travel journalist as I love these two topics. I have always found music my first love and I have written about it as long as I can remember. At age 7 I sent a message to Top Of The Pops website to ask Billie Piper a question and it was such a rush, I wanted to keep doing it.
Thank you again for all your support in reading and engaging with the website.
If you want to help support the website then you can! You can buy Holly a cup of tea (and a biscuit!)
