Jon Chesbro Month – INTERVIEW – Choices

All this month we are speaking to the musician Jon Chesbro. The musician is from Maine and is both a songwriter, producer and a multi-instrumentalist. Last year he released the EP Outta State Outta Mind and is set to release new music soon but has recently released the new track Choices. This week we talk all about the new track Choices.

Hello! Tell us about your brand new single Choices

“Choices” is about living with the choices you make in life. Whether it’s good or bad, or if you succeed or fail, you have to live with it. I feel like that’s been a big lesson in my life the last year or two. I’ve been able to do a lot of great things but I’ve also fallen flat on my face. Either way you have to live with it and move on and keep on keeping on. It’s a motivational song for sure.

How did the song come about?

Sitting alone in my room just strumming chords. I think I came up with the hook first then the verses came to life afterwards. The choir at the end came from just recording and trying out ideas. I had one melody in mind to end the song with and it ended up being way bigger than I anticipated.

How long did it take to write?

A day maybe. It takes longer to produce, record, mix and master everything.

What is the main theme of the song?

Living with your choices. Making good or bad choices. Reaping what you sow.

What about the production process, what was the most tricky thing about recording the track?

Most tricky thing recording this track was probably coordinating everything. Getting collaborators in the same room can be difficult. But luckily I work with amazing musicians who can learn and perform fast. Also the choir at the end was difficult to put together.

How do you feel on the release day of a new song?

Honestly I’m nervous because I did something different on this track. But I stand by my work. I like what ive been able to come up with.

How do you think your fans are going to react to the new track?

They’re going to LOVE it! It’s different from what i’ve done but i’ve never really done anything the same anyways so i guess that’s to be expected.

Tell us about the music video? What was the inspiration?

Oh man. Everytime I have an idea for a music video we never know how to do it. It’s always different every time. Luckily, director Zach Habernan is a genius and always gets the job done. I sat in front of a green screen and we are doing a lot of cool visual effects so it’s going to be crazy!

Was it fun to film?

Oh my god, yeah. I used a green screen and never used one before! All the ideas come out as we film so it’s pretty cool. Also a lot of props were used and that was fun!

What is your favourite lyric in the track?

I have a couple in mind, but one I especially like is “Empathy has left my soul.” Basically saying that I can’t feel sorry for myself because I chose this.

For those who are new to your music, where can they find you on social media?

All my social media is under Jon Chesbro OR Jon Chesbro Music

Finally three words why people should listen to your new single?

You’ll meet god.
