Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to Cristóvam who has recently released the new song with Boy & Bear called ‘Fever’ . I caught up with the musician to ask some tough music questions.
What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?
Andrà Tutto Bene” probably holds the hardest lyric I’ve ever had to write. Saying ‘Everything Will Be Alright’ in the chorus, during a moment as heavy as the pandemic, wasn’t something I took lightly. The world was going through an incredibly dark time, and there was a real risk that a line like that could feel dismissive—or like an empty platitude—if it wasn’t supported by the rest of the song. So I had to make sure the verses carried enough emotional weight and honesty to earn that hopeful refrain. It was really about striking a balance—acknowledging the darkness while still trying to light a small match within it.
Thankfully, people connected with that intention and resonated with the song. I received a lot of messages from people saying that the song helped them get through a very tough period in their lives—and as a songwriter, it doesn’t get much better than that.
What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?
Someone once told me, ‘You sound good… you don’t sound Portuguese at all.’ I think they meant it as a compliment, but it honestly just made me feel sorry for how little they know about the amazing music that comes out of Portugal. Still, I smiled and said thank you
Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?
I’ve had the chance to share the stage with some really talented people, but Scott Matthews stands out. To me, he’s a songwriter who could easily sit at the same table as Nick Drake and many of the true greats of the craft.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?
‘Golden Days’ is definitely one of the more challenging songs to rehearse. Technically, it demands a lot — there’s a delicacy to the vocals and dynamics that has to hit just right live. It’s one of those songs where if you’re even slightly off, the whole thing feels off. But when it clicks, it’s really rewarding.
Dream Collaboration and why ?
The collaboration I just did with Boy & Bear was honestly a dream come true. They’re hands down one of the best bands out there — their songwriting, their sound, their attention to detail… it’s all on another level. Getting the chance to work with them wasn’t just exciting, it was inspiring. It felt like stepping into the world of a band I’ve admired for years, and somehow being welcomed in.
