Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
My new solo single “Voice In My Head” is about the driving inner voice inspiring us to reach new heights or daring us to fail. It can help build you up, but also quick to knock us down or second guess; solving all your world issues when your head hits the pillow or when you’re out at dinner it’s scolding you not to take the extra slice of pie or telling you to drive faster as you approach a yellow traffic light. I had a baseball coach years ago who would preach, “You don’t wanna compete against an opponent AND yourself during a game.” He was referring to my inner voice that was questioning my fastball!
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“You try blockin’ me out and shutting me down
Ignore me can’t hold me down down to the ground
Bubble up for air people see…
I give you words you write for me”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
“Oh, Barcelona!,” from my band The Tear Downs, who I record and perform with regularly when not doing my solo thing! Dave Minehan, a Boston guy who is also known for his work in Replacements and The Neighborhoods, accompanies with beautiful guitars and produces this chestnut!
Your favourite song to play live:
“Night Sky Writer” is a new fan fave track I wrote and the band loves to play!
The song that was the longest to write and why?
“Cadillac Rain” took over 20 years to complete! Why? I didn’t have the right hook and then finally, it came. Better late than never!
Your most emotional track:
“Ballad of The Tear Downs” is a nostalgic look back to roots and foundational life events existing now in memory only, because childhood homes and neighborhoods were torn down.
Dream collaboration:
Wow…T. Swift because I’d love to hear her keep up with me rockin’ out on a tune of her choice!
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Like it’s Christmas morning. Playing hard and connecting with fans playing original music and choice covers makes me feel like this is what I’m meant to do.
The hardest track to play live:
“Kenmore, No More” is a rather new track I wrote and released in 2024 – it has a lot of moving parts where I’m singing, playing rhythm/lead guitar with key changes. It’s a great challenge to pull this off!
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
A tooth brush and get outta jail free card. I pack light!
Describe your fans in three words:
Fun, loving, passionate!
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Do you have a couple hours to discuss??! (laughs) If I had to pick one, Billy Joel’s “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” is a masterpiece where you know the characters and their life stories after a few minutes.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
For me solo, the release of my brand new EP later in 2025 featuring bouncy upbeat tracks like the new single “Voice In My Head”; a throwback classic R&B-style smoker called “Paradise Lost”; a Guns N’ Roses-meets-Screaming Trees hard rocker titled “Save Yourself”; and a wistful indie rocker we call “‘There Goes The Neighborhood.” Stay tuned!
