Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
SPICY ARUGULA PIZZA
Today we are heading to Oklahoma for a pizza flavour that came out of the Stilwell Strawberry Festival that is an annual even that celebrates the States Strawberry Harvest. The Festival is held on the second Saturday in May in the ‘Strawberry Capital of the World.’
Today’s meal was created by Bella Vista Pizza, which is owned by a navy officer. The pizza dough is made with flour imported from Naples, on the top of the dough they add fresh mozzarella, fresh local strawberries, feta cheese, strawberry preserve, salt and then topped with extra virgin olive oil before it goes in the oven.
When the pizza is taken out of the oven it is topped with pecans, baby arugula (which is rocket to our UK readers) and finished off with a drizzle of balsamic.
I saw this item on a television show and the reviews were really good.
