Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
“Down to Earth” is the final track off my debut EP.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“Best of luck trying to bring a dreamer to her senses.”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
“Soul Searchin’” is my favourite track I’ve released. I chose it to be the title track to my debut EP because it captures themes that are prominent through that body of work which are resiliency and transformation.
Your favourite song to play live:
I have to say “Soul Searchin’” again. The band really gets in a groove and jams this one out!
The song that was the longest to write and why?
The ones that are still in progress! Off the EP, I believe I spent the most time on ‘Down to Earth.’ It’s about my experience overcoming independence and anxiety, and surrendering to love.
Your most emotional track:
“Intentionally.” The song was written as a story about how a love that could stand the test of time is built. Right before we went into the studio to track this project, my beloved “Grandaddy” passed away. He was the musical patriarch of my family and he and my “Mimaw” were married 57 years. If you listen to the words of the song, you’ll know why this song took on a completely different meaning after he passed.
Dream collaboration:
I’d love to write with Chris Stapleton.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
I have always described the feeling as “glittering.” I can feel myself come alive when I start walking toward the stage and the adrenaline begins.
The hardest track to play live:
“Roots” has some interesting phrasing and timing and we all have to be really in sync to nail it.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
A fan. I’ve got to have the airflow on stage! And the windblown look can be fun while performing.
Describe your fans in three words:
Connected. Nurturing. Enthusiastic.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Make You Feel my Love” by Bob Dylan.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
More music. The release of the EP has only fuelled the fire to keep creating. I’m looking forward to playing new venues and festivals and sharing new songs.
