Every day this month we are taking a look at a variation of couples from different television shows. It is the month of ‘love’ so it in tradition we are looking at the world of relationships. There will be spoilers throughout so be warned!
Day 11 – Robin and Barney, How I Met Your Mother

I don’t liked Ted Moseby. I am sorry if you are a fan. I find him incredibly annoying and whiney from the beginning and don’t see how a whole show was centred around him while there are other characters that are a lot better. Yes, I have seen the outcome and ‘get it’ but still not a fan.
I didn’t like him and Robin. I didn’t like their relationship, he was so needy that I don’t understand how they ended up together with dogs – since he made her get rid of her dogs in season 2. Today we are going to look at a relationship I actually did like.
It was a surprise when Robin and Barney ended up together but I instantly liked it. I wasn’t a couple that you expected but it was great and I think it was because they had this strong friendship – they were both equal to one another where as I felt with Ted he was needy but also felt he was superior to Robin even though he put her on a pedestal (does that make sense, it does to me!)
I loved their comedy and fun together and felt the show ruined them more then once in terrible ways as I don’t think they expected them to be so popular (here is one article out of many fighting my case about Barney ) The first time when they were made to grow apart they made them grow ‘metaphorically’ fate and that they broke them up and then when they broke them up in the last season it felt like it was to manipulate a happy ending for Ted.
I always felt that they were deliberately set to fail which is awful because they had the best chemistry.
