Every day this month we are taking a look at a variation of couples from different television shows. It is the month of ‘love’ so it in tradition we are looking at the world of relationships. There will be spoilers throughout so be warned!
Day 4 – Lee and Lucy, Not Going Out
It is amazing how long Not Going Out has been on television – I remember when it first started – it was on a lot later, relied a lot less on the puns and was on late at night as it was more rude. It has changed quite a lot now, it is more family friendly, lots of puns and humour for everyone.
Lee and Lucy, on any sitcom it is always predicted that the main guy and girl end up together but Not Going Out, I felt it came really late, a little bit out of the left field (as Lucy is so nasty to Lee and like like, oh here we go, we better do this.) There was always a spark there but it was always severely underplayed.
I wonder if that is why they ended up returning the show with them having a family as it could be explored a lot more then it ever was in the original show (and also by making them married it allowed for the show to expand).
The whole concept of the show is based around puns so these are used a lot in their ‘chemistry’. There are parts throughout the show where you do wonder if they will get together, it is more apparent in the later seasons when they do become a couple. It is sweet but like I said it was expected but still comes out of nowhere.
In season 1 there is an American that was Lee’s housemate and I think that matching those two together made much more sense but it would of been a very complex storyline as she was Tim’s ex girlfriend so it would of been hard to develop. She was changed in season 2 as they felt the character wasn’t right which is a shame.
