Ones To Watch 2025 – INTERVIEW – Minneriket

All this month we are celebrating acts that you need to look out for in 2025. Today it is the time to put Minneriket in the limelight and find out what he has in store for the year.

How was 2024 for you?

It’s been a weird year. Some kind of vacuum. On one hand I’ve been working on a lot of different and exciting things, but on the other hand I have nothing to show from it yet! Haha. Minneriket celebrates 10 years of existence in 2024, and that of course made me a little nostalgic. I started looking back, reflecting on what I’ve achieved up until this point, and all that remains. In some way I feel I’m still picking up pieces from the pandemic, even though months and years go by. It’s like the whole world halted for a while, and it’s been slow to get the wheels moving again.

What was the top 3 highlights for you?

I’ve recorded most of what will be a future album, and I started working with both a new drummer and a new vocalist. Seeing how they were able to bring their personality into the mix was absolutely a highlight, and something I’m excited to share when the time is right. Other than that… Well, like I said, it’s been a weird year. In some ways a lot of progress, and in other ways I’ve kinda reverted back in time and trying to capture the early essence of Minneriket again. Maybe I’m just waiting for the year to pass, really.

What was the key lesson you learnt from last year?

Oh boy. You know, I thought I had some good plans. When working on this yet un-announced album I knew what I wanted to bring back from the last one, what I wanted to change… I had a clear vision. Then a lot of my ideas just failed. I wasn’t able to do it as I wanted, and you can’t force art. So I had to go back and really change my approach. It took me out of my comfort zone, and I guess I learned that I always have to second-guess my choices. Don’t get too comfortable.

What are your plans for 2025?

Well hopefully I will get this nightmare of an album done, haha! It’s like for every step closer something else falls through and I need to re-wire my brain. I’m actually getting kinda angry at myself and the whole process. So I need to re-align myself, tune into whatever it is I’m not connected to at the moment, and really focus.

What other shows are you looking forward to watching this year?

Shows? Like music gigs, or TV-shows? Haha! Let’s do both! I’m seeing Pantera live in a few months, and just started watching The Penguin on Max. There’s a few different aspects of my personality right there.

What styles do you hope to see more of in music this year?

Oh, interesting. I’m usually more interested in what feels right than what style something is. But right now I have a thing for heavy bass saw synths combined with drum solos, so that’s definitely something I hope to hear more of!

What band is your ones to watch in 2025 and why?

I guess I’m very biased here, but Trelldom recently released an amazing record, and I wish them all the best and all the prosperity in the world. It’s amazing what they were able to put out. Let’s hope it’s not 17 years until the next time…

And, for those who know my other musical outlets, I can tell you that we’re bringing back Blodsgard and right now we’re finalizing the follow-up to “Monument” from 2013. That album will be a monster!

Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?

I never do. Don’t like the gimmick. I think we all should try to become better versions of ourselves and set both short-term and long-term goals, and I get the ritual aspect of it by doing it for the new year, but if you fail some of them it often ends up with “well, try again next year”, and that’s just lazy. You should always try to improve. And you don’t need to tell anyone. Just do it!

Are you on social media? If so how can people find out more about your troupe?

You can follow @Minneriket on Facebook and Instagram, and I try to answer everyone. Minneriket is also on other social media sites, but I’m less active there.

Three words why people should come and see you this year?

Minneriket is a one-man band and does not play live, so please don’t come and see me! Haha. Just leave me alone.
