The Travel Book – Venues Venture – OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland

have been to many concerts, it is one of the things that makes me incredibly happy. I know it seems maybe a bit bizarre talking about gigs in this strand but I thought of something – gig venues are ‘technically’ related to travel. I have had to travel many times for concerts and sometimes it is hard to find out what the venues are actually like, from a visitor perspective. So, ever so often, I am going to talk about different venues and will tell you my personal experiences of them. Today we are going to talk about a venue that inspired it.

OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland

If there is one music venue that I have been to a lot then it is the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. It is a large venue but it is one that I have been to a lot and so I can give you my honest opinions about it.

The Hydro is located about a thirty minute walk away from the centre of the town – there are busses and a train route that also go near by so if you do not fancy walking it there are alternative options. There are many food options in the venue and nearby as well.

As a venue, there are many places that you can get a good view – the venue usually states that the back lower area are the best views and usually are priced the highest. Whilst I sat there once, you do get a good view of the whole stage, I personally don’t think it is the best place. I believe the side seats near the front or even standing allows you to have a closer view.

The sound at this venue is very good – wherever you sit, the music experience will be fantastic. Due to the fact it is a huge venue it also means that the bands put on more of a show similar to London O2.

I would highly recommend the OVO Hydro as a venue to go to – the only thing to be aware of is that the hotels next to the venue hike their prices really high on the more popular acts so look across the whole of the city.
