It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. Today we have a look at the second ten of some of the best songs released this year.
11) Can’t Get Enough – Jennifer Lopez
At the beginning of this year there was a lot of new creations by Jennifer Lopez – there was a new documentary, a new visual film and even new music. This song was released in January of this year and was the lead single from her ninth album called This Is Me…Now. The song is catchy and the chorus gets stuck in his head.
12) Training Season – Dua Lipa
This year Dua Lipa released a single that has a really catchy beat and added to her collection of fun songs. Training Season was released on the 15th February and did really well in the charts worldwide. In the UK it went to number 4 in the charts. She performed this song at Glastonbury, her tour, the Grammy’s and the Brits.
13) Forget About Us – Perrie Edwards
It has been a long time coming that Perrie from Little Mix would release music and have a solo career and this year that actually happened. In April, Perrie Edwards released her debut single Forget About Us, which was originally written by Ed Sheeran and then she developed a new version of it to reflect her own life experiences.
14) Espresso – Sabrina Carpenter
If you think of summer 2024 then this is one of those tracks that was everywhere and you could not escape and it was also a track that put Sabrina Carpenter firmly on the map worldwide. The single came from her sixth album Short n’Sweet and it went to number one in twenty countries.
15) Murder On The Dancefloor – Sophie Ellis-Bexter
If there is one song that found a new lease of life this year then it is Murder On The Dancefloor, thanks to the film Saltburn and that last scene. This song has been everywhere this year and it has taken everyone back to 2001. It even went to number 1 in the UK Dance chart in 2024.
16) Houdini – Eminem
This year saw the huge return of award winning rapper Eminem with the really catchy single Houdini. The single was the lead track from the new album Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace). The song sampled the track Abracadabra by the Steve Miller band which makes it really hard to get it out of your head.
17) Gaslight – Travis
Another act that made a big return this year was the Scottish rock band Travis. The track was the lead single from the tenth studio album LA Times which was released in July. It has a really catchy chorus and it is really hard not to tap your toe along to.
18) The Emptiness Machine – Linkin’ Park
This year saw the return of Linkin’ Park for the first time since the passing of lead singer Chester Bennington. This time they returned with a new female lead Emily Armstrong. This is the first single that they released and it did so well that the album went to number one in the United Kingdom followed by a sold out international tour.
19) Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come – The Wombats
In October of this year, the indie band The Wombats returned to the music scene with the track Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come. It is one of those songs that at first you are not sure that you like but it ends up growing on you. It also came with the announcement of a tour for early 2025 as well.
20) Disease – Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has had a busy year – with the release of the Joker Folie A Deux and also the release of new music. Disease was released on the 25th October and debuted on the US Billboard Global 200 at the position of number 14. It also reached the top 10 in many different countries including the UK, Latvia and Portugal.
