Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW – The Chinaskis

Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to the band The Chinaskis about their favourite things about the music industry.

What is your Favourite:

Song you have written:

Sky Turn Black

Lyric:

My favorite Chris Cornell lyric – “the lives we make never ever seem to get us anywhere but dead”

Musician

Tom Petty

Film or television show

The Big Lebowski

Venue to perform at:

Double Wide in Dallas, TX

Item to take with you on tour:

Liquid IV hangover prevention

Instrument:

My 1996 Gibson Les Paul. Still a joy to play, and my first proper electric guitar.

Song to play live:

Paper Tiger

Album by another musician:

“Blue” by Joni Mitchell

Memory of tour:

We did a booze-fueled Scottish tour back in the 2010s. One of the venues was so remote that we had to take a boat to it, then got attacked and chased by a peacock.

Era for music:

Unquestionably the 1970s.

Part of making a record:

Hearing it back for the first time in headphones.

Thing about performing at festivals

Catering, green room and a proper rider!

Quote:

Charles Bukowski: “find what you love and let it kill you”

Thing about the music industry at the moment

Spotify – it’s such a double-edged sword though. The ability to get your music out to millions of people, yet get paid f**k all for the privilege.

Thing about this year so far?

Every year above ground is a good year – especially when you’re in your mid-forties!
