Christmas Shows – INTERVIEW – Christmas in Exeter Street, Farnham Maltings

The festive period is here and there are so many shows that are available for audiences to go and watch! Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to lots of different shows and performers about what they have in store for this time of year! Today we find out all about the show Christmas In Exeter Street which is happening between 13th to the 24th December at the Farnham Maltings. I speak to Olivia Williamson to find out all about it.

Hello, tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m Olivia Williamson, I’m a 26 year old performer from Bedfordshire. I’m an actor, singer and content creator. I’ve been performing for years but funnily enough this is my second show in Farnham this year.

What is the show that you are bringing to the stage in this Festive season?

I will be performing in Christmas in Exeter Street which is adapted from Diana Hendry and John Lawrence’s brilliantly festive classic children’s book. It tells the tale of Maggie Mistletoe who is expecting all the usual family members for Christmas, but come Christmas Eve the doorbell won’t stop ringing as guest after unexpected guest arrives!

Tell us all about the character that you play?

I play Sam who is the young daughter in the family, but I also multirole as many other parts as there are 37 characters split between just 4 actors!

Will there be a bit of festivity in your show?

Absolutely, it’s a show set at Christmas and has lots of festive magic and fantastic new songs made by composer Phil King for the new production.

What are your favourite things about the festive season and why?

I love how it brings everyone together, from families to communities. It’s a time for giving and sharing. Oh, and yummy food!

This time of year the venues tend to be a bit busier as well – do you find that the audience changes at all?

Christmas is often a time where we see more young people attending theatre. Pantomimes and Christmas plays are a great first introduction to the arts, so there’s always a great lively atmosphere in the audience.

What advice would you give for people performing around the festive season?

Have fun! You’re playing pretend for a living and bringing people joy this Christmas, how wonderful.

What is the best thing about a night at your show for the audience?

The funny characters, entertaining scenes and catchy songs.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

I’m @livv_ann on Instagram.

And finally, in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

 Magical, fun, chaotic
