Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
CJ: Our latest Single “The Bay Blues” was a bit of a different route for us musically. It still has that punky Bloodshots flavor on it but it’s got a little more commercial feel to it.
I wrote the song about a trip to the San Francisco Bay area I took.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
The lyrics “OH cut yourself some slack, you’re doing better than you think.” Is completely sarcastic and comes across successfully as such.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
We have a catchy tune called “Gettin Around” that will be released as a single eventually but it’s just seems to grab the crowd in the right way and MAN is it fun to play live. We go OFF!
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Probably our award winning single “No Way Out”. That song started different and transformed a few different ways until it became what it is today. And all that with paid off as we brought home the award for “Best Rock Video” at the 2022 Native American Music Awards in New York USA.
Your most emotional track:
Honestly, I write Music as a form of therapy. I exercise demons up on that stage. Some nights, different songs will hit me emotionally.
We are currently working on a song about The atrocious “Residental School” history and what The then Canadian government, Catholic Church and Royal Canadian Mounted Police did to the Indigenous peoples in the 1960s. Stole indigenous children from their families and homes to try and force assimilation to the Colonized Way of life. These schools were built to “Kill the Indian in the Child”. It’s a horrific story and this song will bring it to the forefront.
Dream collaboration:
I always have trouble with that question. I’m not much of a collaborative person haha. I pretty much go into every encounter assuming the other person is a better musically than I am. But if I had to pick, I’d like to have a SLASH guitar solo to one of our tunes!
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Home. Comfort. The stage can turn a bad day around.
The hardest track to play live:
Definitely our song “Break”. When recording it in the studio I hit some high ranges vocally that make me push myself on stage, so I always try to sneak it into the stylist early haha.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
As long as I have my phone, wallet and headphones, I’m happy. All the rest can be picked up anywhere along the way pretty much.
Describe your fans in three words:
Beautiful. Psychotic. Family.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Oh man. I’ve always loved the guitar riff in Pretty Handsome Awkward by The Used. That riff makes me want to party and rock the f*** out haha.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
Lots of singles! We spent a solid 2 weeks in the studio recording singles to have em lined up for months to come and then to couple with our existing singles to have a full length album in 2025.
We plan on more exciting tour spots too. We want to eventually get over across the pond to play to our extensive fan base over there!
