Films are something that we all look towards for escapism – the action, the humour, the romance, the animation. Sometimes these can hold so much more meaning then just an image on a screen and create narratives and memories in our own lives. Welcome to the sister article to Music Memories where we take a look at some of these personal stories attached to films.
Film: The Greatest Shop In The World
Original Release Date: 1999
When I think of films from my childhood at this time of the year there is a television film that comes to mind. We filmed it onto a VHS when it was first on so we always had access to it and watched it a few Christmases in a row.
The Greatest Store In The World seemed like such a fascinating concept for anyone who was a kid – being stuck in a department store for a night – what a ream that would be!
This was such a great film and pure escapism and Christmas at it’s best. The way they could use or play with anything in the shop was amazing and something I always wanted to do.
Due to the fact it was a television film and relevant to the time of the late nineties, S Club 7 made a guest appearance in it – which was fun but also random, they were a huge face of CBBC at the time.
It is a film with a fun little story, even if a little predictable it was a great film to watch at Christmas.
