Welcome to the feature where we sit down and talk to bands and artists about their latest albums to find out all about it. Today we speak to band member Jin of The Haptics about the new album Vows.
Hello nice to meet you, tell us about yourself!
My name is Jin and I’m the lead singer for The Haptics, a post-punk band from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. We play melodic, grunge-y alternative, post-punk style.
Tell us about the new album
Our new release is called “Vows” and it’s a punchy track about relationships and the people you become before, during and after commitment.
Tell us a bit about the recording process, was it fun to do?
We went a bit DIY for this one! We recorded in our practice studio and in our bandmate’s recording studio. Our bassist Mike produced and mixed this track for us, and we’re pretty proud of the group for rallying together. Recording always is, and was, a blast.
What inspired the album name?
“Vows” refers to the promises we make during relationships, both to ourselves and to other parties. The song reflects on the idea of promises as a mutable thing, something that looks different internally and externally. Oftentimes, the promises we make don’t hold as fast as we initially plan them to.
Tell us the idea behind the album cover?
The album cover represents the offering of balloons to the viewer from a sinister figure, representing the offering of a promise to the participant.
Why should people listen to the album?
This song is perfect for a breakup! It’s also just an all-around catchy alternative track to groove to when you’re contemplating the nature of love.
