Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
The latest single I’ve released is called “anew”. It’s the first track I’ve put out in almost 10 years.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“Alone in a winter night I can’t decide. Who am I? The whole of a stormy rite I can’t decide. Who am I? Maybe I can be reborn anew?”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
CTRL off the forthcoming ep, it’s a cover of Janet Jackson’s “Control” but completely reimagined.
Your favourite song to play live:
CTRL. It’s just a banger.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Chest of Hearts of my debut EP. Honestly I don’t know why it took so long. It was just one of those songs that evolved incredibly slowly over a long period of time. I had bits and pieces of the piano parts and then bits of pieces of the lyrics. And even after that the song morphed into a lot of different forms before settling on the finished arrangement.
Your most emotional track:
“Break”. I wrote it before deciding to break up with a boyfriend that was like my twin flame or something. It was like ripping myself in half to let go of him and this song really captured how guilty I felt for feeling like I needed to move on.
Dream collaboration:
Bjork.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Apprehensive honestly. I have to run my setup in my head and make sure I don’t forget to twist a knob or press a button or completely screw up a song since I’m usually playing solo and have a lot of gear. I have a love/hate relationship with being completely in control of my live shows.
The hardest track to play live:
For some reason all the newer songs I’ve written are all in a super high register and really difficult to sing live since I’m constantly debating whether to use the falsetto it was recorded in or belt the crap out of it. I guess it just doesn’t feel powerful to sing vocals that are airy onstage but a lot of artists like Billie Ellish, etc are really embracing that whisper register so maybe I just need to get more comfortable with it or hire an engineer that can deal with my vocal acrobatics.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Apple cider vinegar, I throw it in my water onstage and it really helps if my voice gets scratchy or whatever. Also a really nice oil cleanser like Emma Lewisham’s because I typically hate the feeling of my skin after taking off my stage makeup unless I have something really luxe like that. Also just a really, really organized packing system for my stage gear/instruments and clothes.
Describe your fans in three words:
Introspective. Dark. Deep.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Twice” by Little Dragon
What we can look forward to from your band in 2025:
A 4 track Darkpop EP called SAINT with the cover of “Control” I mentioned and a few other bangers. A few more singles, and My Midnight Mixtape which is due out early next summer.
