The Travel Book – Venues Venture – Scala, London, United Kingdom

I have been to many concerts, it is one of the things that makes me incredibly happy. I know it seems maybe a bit bizarre talking about gigs in this strand but I thought of something – gig venues are ‘technically’ related to travel. I have had to travel many times for concerts and sometimes it is hard to find out what the venues are actually like, from a visitor perspective. So, ever so often, I am going to talk about different venues and will tell you my personal experiences of them. Today we are going to talk about a venue that inspired it.

Scala, London, United Kingdom

I don’t think it is a venue that is used loads for gigs and I think it is used more as a nightclub venue but these are also important to discuss as well as smaller acts tend to perform at these sort of locations id they have not been to UK that much. So today we are heading to Kings Cross to take a look at the venue.

From the outside The Scala is a lovely building – it is one of those locations I was always curious what it looked like inside. Well, in 2019 I was lucky enough to see a Canadian band Marianas Trench there.

It was as grand as I thought it would be inside with these high ceilings and grand staircases. The actual venue was reasonably small for a concert which meant wherever you stood you got a good view though.

I will say though, as a venue, I ended up realising why there isn’t that many concerts there. I didn’t find the sound that great. I think because of the height of the walls it didn’t sound as great as it could and at times it felt annoying.

The band I saw don’t usually tour the United Kingdom so that is probably why it was booked – I would go and see a band there again but will go now knowing what to expect.
