New Album Deep Dive – INTERVIEW – Inside-Out, Otherworldly Entity

Welcome to the feature where we sit down and talk to bands and artists about their latest albums to find out all about it. Today we speak to band member John of Otherworldly Entity about the album Inside-Out.

Hello nice to meet you, tell us about yourself!

I’m John, the lead singer of Otherworldly Entity. We’re a nu-metal and alt rock band from central New York

Tell us about the new album

Our new album, Inside-Out, came out on September 20. This is a really different album for us because it’s a full-band acoustic album. We approach some of our favourite songs from our previous albums with a new style, and then we have some brand new tracks to add.

Favourite track in new album and why?

Red Flags is definitely my favourite. It’s brand new, and a music video for it is coming out with the new album. I’m known for having a bit of a sense of humour, even in serious issues. I feel like this song shows that.

Tell us a bit about the recording process, was it fun to do?

Z and I met back in 2017 playing acoustic shows, so it was a lot of fun for us to get back to our roots. We composed strings and keys, added percussion on top of Shawn Washer’s drums, even pulled out the mandolin on some tracks. So the process was a lot of fun

What inspired the album name?

It’s the opposite of our normal in every way. We aren’t hiding behind heaviness. So it feels Inside-Out. We even switched our colours to red and yellow from our normal blue and green for it

Tell us the idea behind the album cover?

We went through a couple of designs, but ultimately we wanted something that tied together the aesthetics of our previous albums. I painted this cover myself, and once it was finished, it just felt right. It has the acrylic pour reminiscent of the Cataclysm cover, dive by Josh Kline. But with the mushrooms and rose, it has the graphic nature of the Psilocyborg cover, done by Morgan LaFlair. I’m not really a painter, so it was a nice challenge.

What one of your songs on the new album do you think will the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

I think when it comes to acoustic performances, they all have a bit of a challenge to them. Again, there’s no heaviness to hide behind. Every subtle action is noticeable

Why should people listen to the album?

We all have a lot of artistic influences in this band. It’s the intellectual curiosity that I think brings us together so much. So listening to this album, I think you’ll be able to hear influences from all over the world. I’m happy and excited about the eclectic nature of this album
