Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Hugo Joyce

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

False hope is the first a string of releases. It’s essentially a break up song, written about a one sided relationship. The lyrical content is sad but the production elements provide this hopeful feel which I really love.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

‘You only want me when everyone else leaves’

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I think that has to be a song called ‘When I’m Like This.’ It’s one of my more honest songs and the production is really special.

Your favourite song to play live:

This has to be False Hope. It’s emotional, punchy and powerful and always goes done brilliantly.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

Is a song called ‘Are You Mine.’ This will be released in the new year. It’s one of my poppier numbers but I re-wrote it multiple times.

Your most emotional track:

My most emotional track is being released in November. I won’t go into too much details but it’s written for my parents.

Dream collaboration:

That has to be Elton John. He is probably the main reason why I got into writing music. I used to go to sleep when I was a kid listening to Elton on my portable CD player. So it has to be Elton.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s deffo a rush but I have to admit I still get nervous. But the minute I start singing it all goes and I love every second of it.

The hardest track to play live:

Probably the song I wrote for my parents. It always gets me.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I haven’t been lucky enough to go on tour yet, but it will probably be Honey, my Whiskey flask and my writing partner..

Describe your fans in three words:

Loyal, supportive and passionate

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

At the moment it has to be ‘Bad Dreams’ by Teddy Swims. The man is a genius and the song is unreliably catchy. I can’t get enough of it at the moment.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

More music more shows!
