Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Another State

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Sean: our first single is called ‘ All You Need’. It’s about a  relationship which has come to a halt, and the other person steps up and  confidently says you don’t need to feel unsure I’ll make sure in everything you want and together they can be something special! It’s pretty universal, I think those relationships happen a lot in every day life. I think if you believed in a relationship enough you should fight for it and tell them how much they mean to you and how special you believe it can be. So it’s great to be able to promote a positive message like this within our music.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

Sean: ‘ How does it feel…
To be…Waking-up without the touch of your loved one… Cause it’s hard
for me…’

I like it because there’s total vulnerability there and honesty that without them there they’re in pain and are being real with how it makes them feel.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

Paul: For me it has to be ride or die, I think collectively we could all relate to the lyrics. It showcases a gritty side of our vocals, that for me, makes it standout on this album.

Your favourite song to play live:

James: Rise up. This song is very motivational and feel very uplifting when we perform it.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

Sean: Most songs actually are written quite quickly. I co- wrote a large amount of our songs and my method getting a song going is once I know I’ve got a good melody I don’t spend too much time over thinking it. I get down my ideas/ melodies and we move forward pretty quickly!

Your most emotional track:

Paul: Echoes. This song is about a relationship that ended and that emptiness that’s created when they’re no longer in your life. It’s pretty loving and definitely is emotional!

Dream collaboration:

Paul: I have two, Living – A dream collaboration for me would have to be Luke Coombs, everything he touches turns to gold, he really is the storyteller of the country world at the minute.

Passed away – you might be surprised by this but it has to be Frank Sinatra, since a young kid, l’ve been mesmerised by the brass band and admired Frank for doing it his way.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

James: It’s hard to put into words but it’s combination of excitement and anxiety. No matter how well prepared I am I always get those last minute nerves but the second I step out in front of an audience I’m elevated and it all comes together.

The hardest track to play live:

Dave: End of the road only because it’s the longest track by a long way!!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Dave: Steamer for the vocals as it really helps to keep the voice in good health and PlayStation for FIFA in between venues, as we’re very competitive and love to kill time when not rehearsing by playing video games against each other!

Describe your fans in three words:

Sean:  Loyal, Passionate, and full of love!

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

James: I’m a 90’s kid so there are so many from that era. I don’t think I’d ever want to have written someone else’s song but there are many to pay homage to. A different genre is always exciting and as a band we have already done this with a couple of classics.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Paul: We’d love for ‘Another State’ to be established, and have our music heard globally! We believe our music can resonate with a wide spectrum of listeners and we are extremely really excited for what can come with the years after!
