Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
The latest single is called “Down”. It’s about overcoming the hurdles that people can throw at you in life.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
Well, the essence of the song is in the chorus lyrics “I’m gonna stop this bringin’ me down,
not gonna let it weigh down on me”, so I guess that would have the most emotional heft to it.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
I would have to say “No Replay”. It has the kind of vibe I love most.
Your favourite song to play live:
Given I’m in the only one in this project, and I play every instrument and sing every vocal in the studio, I can’t really play live. I do gig regularly, but it’s with a different project.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
“Get What You’re Giving” took the longest, because I had everything but a chorus for quite some time. I was finding it difficult to find something that I felt did the rest of the song justice, or simply “fit in”.
Your most emotional track:
Probably “My Time”. It’s about accepting that the bad periods in your life are well and truly over, or possibly question whether they really are over.
Dream collaboration:
Writing with Dave Grohl or with Eddie Vedder.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
I actually feel calm. Performing live is one of the most mentally calming things I can do.
Describe your fans in three words:
Of most value.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Spoonman” by Soundgarden.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I’ve already begun writing for my next recording. Hopefully something will come out next year.
