We sent our reviewer Damian to watch Serious Theatre from Serious People
Mabel Thomas and Charlotte Anne-Tilley each breathe a unique and distinctive charisma, physicality, and presence into the writing and portrail of these stage-school archetypes (plus wildcards? I never went to theatre-camp!)
This is a great fun comedy experience – the action moves around, through, and sometimes outside-of the venue. It’s very self-aware as a fringe show, has just the right amount of 4th-wall-bending, and avoids any sense of being patronising because they seem to be speaking about their own world.
The only reservation I have is that I struggle when shows have a lot of characters, so I got a little lost sometimes in the quick scene changes. That didn’t stop me loving it and laughing, though.
The laughter is vigorous throughout – the audience definitely had an excellent time. Keep an eye out for both of them in future
