How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?
In 2023 the messages of the group whatsapp chats of Wayne Couzens & serving police officers were released in the media. They were shocking and deplorable in their content. As women we couldn’t believe men with such power and authority spoke about women this way. Gemma Green (Producer) and Emily Hunter (writer) were discussing these reports and in that moment we both said we’ve had “enough”. It was like an epiphany – that was to be the name of our show!
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
Enough was originally written as a black box studio piece and the intensity, the pace of the 45minute piece lends itself to this! Emily’s style of writing is naturalistic, a real sense of verbatim of the characters which contrasts well with the use of minimal staging, physical theatre & engaging sound design. Or so we like to think!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
At Moonstone HQ we are excited to see some new writing; particularly new dramas. We enjoy fresh pieces that allow us to question, to consider, our place in the world and what we are doing to make it a better place for everyone.
We recognise the headlines make for difficult reading most days and we are not immune from the doom and gloom too – sometimes we need a night of cracking comedy to lift us up so we will be seeking out some funny bones to go and see wherever we can during Camden Fringe.
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?
Life is short. Take the plunge and go for it! Start at the end (the show date) and work your timeline backwards. Knowing your timeline really helps to organise you and your show, ready to perform with lots of wonderful creatives. And never underestimate a good marketing strategy. No one can come and see your hard work if they don’t know about it.
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
The best thing about Camden Fringe is feeling a sense of belonging to a creative community whilst being able to promote your own hard work, your show, to the people of London (and beyond!). And for us at Moonstone Theatre who are based in Manchester, it’s a brilliant chance to meet new audiences.
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
If you’re from outside London, check out Air BnB rentals as early as you can to get the best rates on accommodation. Financing fringe theatre is costly and difficult to secure funding from traditional routes so set up a page where family and friends can donate to help cover the cost of things like registration and marketing, costumes and props. It may not cover it all but every penny helps. Artists shouldn’t haven’t to lose money to have their work seen.
What are your three favourite things about Camden?
Our favourite things about Camden are: the markets, the street food, the nightlife, the amazing mixing pot of people from all walks of life.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Greta Gerwig. 100 percent. Dear Gods, please let her find her way to The Lion and Unicorn in Kentish Town…
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
We’d call this years pigeon Percy. Percy looks remarkably regal this year and requires a name befitting of such a classy wardrobe.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Come follow us at Moonstone Theatre on all the socials. Insta @moonstone_theatre, Tik Tok @moonstonetheatre, Facebook and TWITTER @Moonstoneplays because we refuse to call it X.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Thought provoking stuff.
