Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hey! My name is Sid Singh and I’m a comedian who tries to use his comedy shows to raise money for refugees!
Tell us all about your show!
My show is a huge experiment! I wanted to create a show that speaks directly to progressive activists, moderate middle class audience members, disaffected minority groups, apathetic voters, and um you know, make it extremely funny! American Colonizer is a show that answers the question of who my people are and where I truly belong. Hopefully, if I do it correctly, it helps you answer those same questions! Will I do that correctly? Come watch the show to find out!
How did you come up with the name for the show you’re taking to the fringe?
American Colonizer was decided upon for two reasons. 1. I optimistically wanted to face head on the fact that both my ancestors and my home country are colonizers. 2. I cynically wanted to start my show with the letter A because it comes earlier in the guide and will help more people hear about my show!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m so lucky man. All my friends are these amazing performers who keep pushing themselves to get better from all over the world. Any time you can see Jack Holmes (Austria), Clayton Smith (USA), Mike Rice (North Korea), Katie Green (California), Alicia Montoya (Venezuela), and so many more comics I haven’t named, you have to do it!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe?
This will be the 11th year that I am performing at the Fringe! The best advice I can give for new performers is to take the time to actually enjoy it! There are so many opportunities to perform and to watch other amazing performers! Go do everything. You’ll be exhausted by the end of it, but that’s what September is for!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe:
Things have changed so much since I first started! I’m so boring now! I just do my two shows a day, try to watch at least one show, do guest spots, hang with my friends in the city, and then otherwise try to get as much rest as I can! I’ll probably gig a total of at least 100 times during the month, so its best I figure out all the ways I can sneak in a nap!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Go watch a show! Its the largest arts festival in the world and its only on for one month of the year! Go watch something you’d never watch before and I bet it will expand your mind!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Lol, the absolute best piece of advice I can give anyone is to never tell anyone your favourite place to eat. Its not worth the long lines. Just say Ting Thai so that people keep going to the same places they always do and leave the real secrets to you. (No offense to Ting Thai which is already so amazing that its not possible for me to ever get a table there.)
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Getting to take risks and push your style to its limits. You’re going to perform to so many crowds over the course of the month! It’s going to be a great time getting to figure out how to make everyone have as good a time as possible!
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Learn how randomly connected the city is. You can get to a lot of places quite quickly once you learn the right alleys to take and when!
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Persistence. Flyering is a thankless job. Find ways to make it fun by doing it with as much energy as you can muster. Remember! The more you flyer, the better chance you have of having a few more people in your room to perform to!
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
@SidSinghIsFunny on Instagram. Its really the best way!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Hilariously Bad Ancestors
