Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hi we are Leamprov, Leamington Spa’s premiere improv comedy troupe! We’ve been performing our style of improv comedy across the Midlands for the last 4 years, and we’re thrilled to be showing our work further afield.

Tell us all about your show!

Our Show is called ‘The Elephant in the Room’. It’s a quick-fire family friendly improvised sketch show in the style of ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’. We will be performing comedy sketches and theatre games crafted from suggestions from the audience and made up completely on the fly. Expect fast-paced comedy where anything can happen!

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

The Elephant in the room is… We don’t know what each show will be about! The scenes and theatre games will be made up from suggestions from the audience on the night. The show name is also inspired by Leamington Spa’s much loved unofficial mascots, the three elephants who lived in a circus in the town in the late 19th century

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

We’re looking forward to being able to see other improvised comedy shows, as they don’t come up as often as more traditional comedy performances. Mates use realistic situations and dark humour to great effect, I’d love to be able to see them again!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This will be our first ever Edinburgh fringe! We have performed at other festivals before, but of course, nothing compared to Edinburgh. From past experience, we’re planning on soaking up the atmosphere, helping to make this fringe the best it can be, and seeing as many strange and wonderful shows as possible.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Our show is at 12PM, so for us it’s an early start, flyering near the venue, warming up and setting up the space. Then we have the whole afternoon to explore and see what fantastic show’s everyone else is doing, meet new people, exchange ideas, and then do it all again the next day.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Don’t take yourself too seriously, and roll with it. It’s a very busy time for everyone in Edinburgh. Some things will inevitably go wrong, you might not be able to make it to every show you want to. acknowledging this and letting yourself have fun in the process makes the whole thing much easier!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

This is our first time in Edinburgh, so we don’t actually have one, But we’re really fond of Tapas, so please send your recommendations our way!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The vibe! It sounds like a cliché, I know, but everyone is so friendly and in such a good mood at festivals. In our show we get suggestions from the audience, and we tend to get much more creative ones at festivals; probably because everyone’s already in a fun and creative mood.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

We like to mix up planning shows in advance and finding shows to see on the spur of the moment. It gives you a rough plan for which part of the city you need to be in at which time, and then you can find other shows nearby that pique your interest. There’s so many good shows happening in such a short space of time at the fringe, it really helps with choice paralysis.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Bring a banner: setting it up on stage means that all the photos people share of you on social media will have your name in it. Plus sturdy shoes and a good rucksack. I know, I sound like my dad, but you’ll be on your feet a lot, and having one which won’t hurt your shoulders or back will pay dividends by day 5.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Though it’s pretty obvious, try to stand out. Nearly every act in Edinburgh  will be flyering at some point, so making your promotions memorable and different from the rest is a must. We’ll be distributing classy orange and black business cards to promote our shows, which will hopefully draw intrigue more than a more traditional flyer.
